The company

Registered agent. Yes. A Montana business needs a registered agent with a physical Montana address (not a P.O. box); you can be your own agent or use a Montana resident or commercial agent.

Owner privacy. No. The LLC articles and each annual report must give the names and business mailing addresses of the managers, or of the members if the LLC is member-managed.

State taxes and fees. C corporations, and LLCs taxed as corporations, pay Montana corporate income tax at 6.75% of Montana net income, with a $50 minimum tax.

Know before you choose

  • The annual report fee is waived only while the Secretary of State keeps the waiver; the fee page gives no end date, and a report filed after 15 April costs $35.
  • Montana LLC filings name managers or members, so owner or manager names are public.
  • The Secretary of State fee page carries a 2023-11-21 date in its metadata; it was read on 2026-10-02.
  • Montana has income taxes on corporations and individuals, so the no-state-income-tax tag does not apply.
  • A foreign founder needs a Montana address for the registered agent.
